Welcome to Pilsen Our murals

Pilsen enjoys an array of murals. The Pilsen Albino likes them because they are not advertising something, non political, they are colorful and many are simply about everyday life in the latino community.
There is one in particluar on Ashland and 19th that shows a 3 story tall family making tortillas in their kitchen.
If you ever visit Pilsen set aside some time to cruise around and see the lovely murals that sparkle up the community.
Stop by the The National Musuem of Mexican Arts on 19th.
Take a stroll along
18th and persue the many shops Taquerias and Tortilla manufacturers.
. Grab a warm stack in their take away shops.
El Milagro on Cesar Chavez/Blue Island & 20th has a cafe also.
Del Ray, El Milagro and Sabinas all located in the heart of Pilsen.
And by the way that's a big heart.

Copenhagen Climate Summit steers clear of the meat of the matter.

Factory Farming Animals for food is the #1 planet polluter.
The government, the public and even some conservation groups will dance
all around this issue. I have a friend who attended a Sierra Club event a few
years ago and they were actually serving quail or chicken.
That is how far the denial goes and for what reason The Pilsen Albino asks?

Sometimes TPA thinks that the veg diet, way back in the old time machine, got
tangled up in the bicycle chain of a negative image.
Pegged as Un-american or perhpas cultish or exclusive and aggressive?
Monks in China were eating vegan Seitan thousnads of years ago.

Well working in a vegan lunch establishment for 5 years I can attest to
it's very mainstream appeal.
There is even worldwide vegan body building association.See blog roll
So where does the boogie monster factor in? (TPA ponders......)

Big shindig in Copenhagen for the Climate Change Summit.
Talk of expensive regulations, restrictions and divisions. Big deal.
To think if factory farming was the focus and how too reduce it
in the next 20 years how much progress could be made.
Changing to a planet supporting /plant based diet is easy today and cheaper
and can be very gourmet. Clean cuisine and my grocery list became more
interesitng. I was not just eating 4 items all the tIme it soon became 15.
Going vegan is an upgrade to walking around with a cemetery in your stomach.

Go to meetings, march with signs, comment , drive hybrid vehicle,
that you buy used clothing, recyle. All good but when you ingest dead
animals you are in support of heavy water, air and ground pollution
not to mention with animal cruelty and misery on a massive scale.

Al Gore NEVER mentions any of this in his flim flam film.
Why? Because his family made it's millions in factory farming in Kansas.
16 pounds of grain and 2,5000 gallons of water polluted per 1 lb of meat.
His family alone has damaged a large portion of the environment in 50 yrs.

How Is the Copenhagen Summit PROTECTING the factory farm animal industry?
They are doing so by avoiding it. Complicit. Is this summit legit or is it,
as some say, a summit to set up a "climate change stock market" of sorts?

This Pilsen Albino sees switching to a plant based diet as a positive
health move, happiness enhancing, individual strengthening, economically
forward step up for anyone. Just say No To factory farms planet destruction.
No politics, no sides just freedom for all species!

I have met fifteen 60-80 year olds who recently switched to a vegan
diet. They are overjoyed a their discovery and some wish it it had come
earlier in their lives.
They always express how much happier they are. Interesting.

But don't just take The ole Pilsen Albino's word here is a link to
The Pew Charitable Trust Foundations in depth report into the FF industry.
It's history, how it grew so fast, unregulated and how we need to act now.

Thanks for stoppping by today. I was going to post a photo of factory
farm pollution but instead thought you might enjoy pics of my friends,
and four legged roomates instead.

It is raining good news for animals. Blessings are everywhere

Click on post title for full Forbes article.
Patrick O. Brown, a Stanford University biochemist, has changed science twice by giving stuff away. In the early 1990s Brown invented the DNA microarray, a tool that measures how cells make use of their DNA; he then showed researchers how to make their own, transforming genetic research. In 2000 he was one of three scientists who launched a free, online scientific journal called the Public Library of Science (PLOS); it has already broken the stranglehold of $200-a-year scientific publications like Science and Nature.

Now he is tackling an even bigger foe. Over the next 18 months Brown, 55, will take a break from his normal scientific work (finding out how a small number of genes are translated into a much larger number of proteins) in order to change the way the world farms and eats. He wants to put an end to animal farming, or at least put a significant dent in our global hunger for cows, pigs and chickens.

Spice Popcorn and Library Films

Library movies, Spiced Popcorn and my own blend Fruit Juice, Yerba Matte and Bubbly Topo Chico mineral water.
The Chicago Harold Washington Libray has a variety of films to rent.
Found 2 interesting titles.
This Pilsen Albino is not a tv user so I fire up the laptop and watch films.
I have also discovered how seamless it is to rent a movie for my desktop at the iTunes store. Takes overnight to download. If my wifi connection is interrrupted I click 'resume' and it starts up from where it stopped.
Once the film is started it will 'evaporate' itself in 24 hours.

Okay now to the important part of film watching. POPCORN.
Ever try a trick of placing your kernel corn for popping in the freezer?
It pops better with far less unpopped kernels left behind.
Once popped grab a spice or too and sprinkle liberally.

Not pictured here is Nutrional Yeast (Brewers Yeast) Some call it
'hippie corn' when you use it on popcorn. Nutritional Yeast is loaded with
B vitamins ad tastes good. One of my fav blends is Nutritional Yeast, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder plus a little Janes Mixed up Salt.
Soul Seasoning is excellent but already contains quite a bit o'salt.
I have recently created my own vegan margarine to add to the Popcorn.
1 C Safflower Oil, 1/2 Cup Warm Water with 1 TBSP Powdered Lecithin, Salt and a pinch of Turmeric for color. Blend in food processor well. Refrigerate for 4+ hours. Melts well but maybe not quite as smoothly as manufactured store bought.
A little Nutrional Yeast may be added also. Then is it 'Hippie Margarine'? Guess so.
This Pilsen Albino takes half of the vegan margarine batch and adds chopped garlic, parsley, lemon + a pinch of cayenne then freezes it for garlic bread spread.
Freezes well and can also be used for the base of a pasta sauce saute.
The Movies
Reviews 'The Outsider' Dir. Bella Tarr. 3 stars. Meandering story of a
small Hungarian town and a group of young friends who wander Through lIfe.
via the local pub.
Interesting but forgettable.
Could serve as a reminder for people approaching 18 years old .
'Don't waste a crucial time of your life 'hanging out' and rudderless in a pub.

'Who has the Black Box?'. Spoofy murder mystery about a group of Greek patriots
involved in a statuary firm who build radar scrambling Black
Boxes into Marble structures they place along the lovely Grrek coast. They are out to stop any Evil Empires missiles..but end up downing needed radar. Jane Seberg plays a lead role as the wife of an American spy who
comes close to the scheme and is murdered.
Structure could have been better. Silly at times and looks like a platform for the lead actress who has been described as 'looking like a yummy slice of Lemon Meringue pie'. American actress, Jane Seberg, had a troubled real life that ended in suicide/overdose in her parked car on a Paris street in August 1979.
She starred in 37 Hollywood films
She was a Black Panther Party supporter and esp. their community projects
Also noted that she had an affair ith a BPP member in the 1960's.
The FBI had her wiretapped and watched her everymove it is reported in her wikipedia page.
Also noted she was a good actress, spoke French well along with
donning a cute haircut.

India steps up wisely. Ban Elephants from Zoos and Circuses

Breaking News:
Yay! Free from decades of misery! It is great day!
The U.S. must step up and do the same.

Years ago I was riding my bike past Lincoln Park Zoo here in Chicago.
I stopped and nearly broke down because here was a large Elephant tethered by her ankles and chained to one small spot for all to see.
She was rocking back and forth from foot to foot. She never stopped. Exactly
the same tempo, over and over again and again. This is a sign of animal insanity.
This Elephant had been trapped and not allowed to wander free for who knows how many years. I surmised insanity was what had happened to her.
Her micro captivity broke her mind. A mother perhaps, a lonley
beast tied in one place like a freak show.
I looked around and saw people walk by and do the nicey nice smile at her.
Did it not occur to them the painful misery she was in?
An animal that size needs large spaces of freedom to roam, to stay alive and be healthy.
But here she was chained at the ankles and left in a small area in major city.
The cars driving by honking, buses and the crowds and noise. What did she have to do inside her mind to break it and refrain from reacting as she should?
Or was she 'trained' in some way to behave and ignore all the sounds and activities nearby that raise the danger instinct, stress chemicals that are released?
Who are we, what are we? that this is allowed in plain view? Think about it.
So many love to go on about all things politicaly correct and then allow an atrocity
like this to go on in our city? We have re-arranged our thinking about many things and moved forward in many postive ways. It is far past the time we, together, must end this public supported cruelty. You and I and everyone must act. Fix it.
Gov. Ryan, love or whatever him, signed a bill making Animal Cruelty a felony in Illinois.
I will add, go ahead and look it up, Ringling Brothers has been convicted of felony after felony, fined for decades, paid millions because of the sadistic abuse of Elephants at the hands of their 'trainers'.
They have been caught over and over . See proof on You Tube and elsewhere.
This Pilsen Albino proposes The City of Chicago follow in the sane footsteps of India and ban this torture in our fair city.
The City of Chicago no longer allow multiple animal cruelty felons, like Ringling Brothers, to set up shop here.
Ban 'em now.
Tigers also. Have you ever seen the misery those caged runners live in at the zoo?
Sad to think this Mother Elephant may have had a baby at Lincoln Park..trapped at Lincoln Park Zoo. Yes, trapped.
Thank you for reading this.
Namaste

Elephants to be banished from all zoos

NEW DELHI: Delhi Zoo will soon be bidding farewell to its three elephants. In fact, elephants will no longer be seen in any zoo or circus in the
country after the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) issued a notice on Monday to the effect that all of these animals in zoos, numbering about 140, should be sent to national parks, sanctuaries and tiger reserves as soon as possible.

According to sources, the circular states that a zoo environment is not the best place for the large animals and they should be shifted to national parks with immediate effect. "CZA's order is binding on all zoos. Elephants are large animals and require a large area to move about freely. The environment of a zoo can be very restrictive. The animals have great use for departmental work, eco-tourism, patrolling etc and a decision has been taken to send them to national parks and tiger reserves where they can be under the supervision of mahauts," said A N Prasad, director, Project Elephant.
